摘要
共和党利用克林顿绯闻掀起一场大规模“倒克运动”,制造了百年不遇的弹劾案。然而 ,克林顿的支持率却步步攀升 ,居高不下 ,说明美国公众赞扬克林顿的政绩 ,厌恶利用性丑闻搞派性斗争。弹劾条款被否决和 1 998年中期选举民主党打破历史惯例逆境获胜 ,表明了美国社会思潮的中间化倾向。故而 ,不论未来哪个党主宰白宫 ,哪个党控制国会 ,其政策取向都将按照中间路线加以调整。
砊he Republicans took advantage of Clinton's sexual scandal to upset Clinton fiercely and pushed the second impeachment in a century.But the continued support for Clinton demonstrates that the public approve Clinton for his achievements in his official career and they are fed up with taking the sexual scandal for political advantage.Both the refusal of the impeachment articles by the Senate and the Democrats winning in the by election,which is unusual in American history under an averse situation, shows that the middle road is prevailing in the American society.So,no matter which party controls the Congress or takes the presidency,the policy will be shaped along the middle road. 〔
