<ABSTRACT>
Light microscopy (LM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron
microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive analyzer of X-ray (EDAX ) tech-
niques have been used to study interface between carbon/silicon carbide (C
/SiC ) composite implant and bone. The C/SiC was inserted in lower jaw of
the two rabbits for 4-months. It is shown that the C/SiC composite provids
for excellent hard-tissue and softtissue biocompatibilities. The intimate
contact between C/SiC implant and bone is observed. An new interesting
phenomenon is that the content of calcium (Ca ) in implant adjacent to the
interface have obviously increased for 4 months postimplantation.
