Objective:To study the effect of oxygen inhalation by using a long pipeline in the construction sites above the ground and in the potholes in the plateau. Methods: Forty subjects(20 aerial personals and 20 pit operators) were admitted for each group at the altitude of 3 600 m,4 200 m or 4 800 m.The blood oxygen saturation was determined for 3 times before oxygen inhalation and the average value was calculated. The oxygen was inhaled through a 50-metre-long pipeline connected to a 40-litre-volume oxygen bomb with the pressure of 2.5,5 or 10 MPa.The blood oxygen saturation was tested again after oxygen inhalation(4 L/min) for 3 times at an interval of one minute, the average value was calculated, and the contrastive analysis was carried out. Results: The blood oxygen saturation in subjects above the ground or in the potholes was significantly improved after long-pipeline oxygen inhalation with the different oxygen pressure and the same oxygen flow rate(P0.01).Conclusion: The long-pipeline oxygen inhalation at the high-altitude construction sites above the ground or in the potholes could increase the blood oxygen saturation and improve hypoxia, which may be a simple, safe and effective method for the treatment of hypoxia in people working at the construction sites above the ground or in the potholes in the plateau.
