In this paper, the author thinks that Ethnic costume has always been seen as an important external marker for a minority; it shows and strengthens how to identify within the minority, and distinguish from other minorities. In some places, those different nationalities live together or beside each other, it is truly hard to recognize their dissimilar nationalities by their costumes; however, it doesn’t mean that they have lost their way to be identified. On the one hand, imagined differences help them to confirm their own identification; On the other hand, the real commons contribute to keep a friendly and harmonious relationship. Therefore, the 'alike with minor differences' in costumes is more likely to be a survival strategy for them to deal with the relationship between 'the self' and 'the others' in the case of the ethnical communication.
