This dissertation makes a new probe into the meaning of yamato(da he)as Japan's title by studying Japan's Yoro Code and Decree on Naming Places with Two Elegant Chinese Characters,as well as by analyzing the concepts of "da he"(yamato)and "he"(harmony) in Chinese Confucianism and Taoism. It is believed that yamato(da he)consists of two characters "da"(grand) and "he"(harmony). The character "da"(grand) is exactly the same as the first word in "da wo","da yang de" and "da wo"(for the second time),"da" in these words means with political orientations towards the concept of great national unity. The charater "he"(harmony) in "da he"(yamato),is adopted in line with the establishment and implement of Ritsuryo system. In a word, yamato(da he)means the purpose of great national unity. With the guide of "he"(harmony),Ritsuryo system, taking etiquette as the core, could make further development.
