The Wuyi Mountain Nature Reserve has a very high insect diversity. In this study, the diversity of the hawk moths (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) was investigated from 2002 to 2009. Based on the 2,103 specimens of hawk moths were collected by lamp light, representing 5 subfamilies, 33 genera, and 75 species and subspecies have been recognized. A list of Sphingidae collected from Wuyi Mountain Nature Reserve is appended. Most moths in the nature reserve belong to the Oriental Realm, followed by Cosmopolitan or widespread species, with a few remaining species that are Palearctic and endemic. The peak of the species and abundance of individuals generally occurs from June to August. Ambulyx ochracea (Butler) is the dominant species occurring throughout the year. The variation in the diversity index and the relationship of the hawk moths may basically reflect the variation in the moths’ living environments.
