China's traditional festivals, in multiple forms and notions, originated and flourished in agricultural society. One category of them, local festivals, has received increasing attentions for their naturalness and relative integrity. Taking the Praying-to-God Festival of Dong people in Guizhou province as a case, this paper describes the natural image of the festival and explains its close relationship with the farming and lives in rice-plantation area. In context of promoting the protection of intangible cultural heritages, the Praying- to-God festival is being reshaped by local people for a transitioning appellation. Outside observes should take a positive attitude toward the reshaping effort provided that the cultural notions of the festival are maintained.
