Petrol consumption and pollutant discharge of automobile were simply introduced. Important meaning, characterizing parameters and implementation way of lightweight car body were systematically summarized. The importance of application of high strength steels and advanced high strength steels to lightweightization and safety of automobile was described. The development of high strength steels, advanced high strength steels and coming generation of advanced high strength steels, their performances, microstructures and importance to lightweight car body as well as typical examples were introduced in some detail.
