二战以来,美国继"婴儿潮"之后又出现了一个新的世代——"X一代",它特指对美国社会感到失望厌恶,对自我身份困惑迷茫,游走于社会边缘的青年一代。作为"X一代"作家群的重要一员,道格拉斯·库普兰德的小说《X一代》一经出版即引起美国社会的极大震动,"X一代"也因该小说而得名。本文细致分析小说主人翁"自我"的逃离、追寻和迷茫的三个阶段,揭示"X一代"的心理状态及其自我边缘化的深层原因。
Following the ＂baby boom＂,a new generation in America—the ＂Generation X＂ comes into being after the World War II.It refers to the American youngsters who are disappointed in American society,confused about their social identities and exiled themselves from the mainstream American society.As one of the most preeminent writers of the ＂Generation X＂,Douglas Coupland＇s novel Generation X stired up a great sensation in America after its first publication,the ＂Generation X＂ earning its name thereby.This paper makes a careful analysis on the escapement,pursuit and confusion of the ego of the protagonists revealing the psychology of the ＂Generation X＂ and the deep reasons for their self-marginalization.
