Objective:To investigate serum sodium level change in children with febrile seizures, thus to put forward suggestions of precautions against the recurrence of febrile seizure and problems need attention in the rescue of febrile seizure patients. Methods:Retrospective analyzed of serum sodium concentration change in 120 cases of febrile seizures in children was performed. Results:In 120 cases of children with febrile seizures,46 cases showed hyponatremia, with incidence of 38.3%.In the 46 cases with more than 2 times of convulsion, hyponatremia occurred in 20 patients, with incidence of 76.9%.There were 29 cases of hyponatremia in the 101 cases with seizure duration shorter than 10 minutes and 17 cases in the 19 cases with seizure duration of or longer than 10 minutes. Conclusion:Hyponatremia is often the concurrent symptom of febrile seizures in children, and is closely related with the times and duration of seizure attack. Therefore,in the treatment of febrile seizures, sodium should be supplemented in order to maintain a stable internal environment, and to some extent,to prevent the recurrence of convulsions.
