Polyploidy is a prominent force in the evolution of higher organisms. As a genomic stress,it bestow short-term and long-term effects on the organisms, including instability of genomic structure and alterations in gene expression as well as phenotypic novelty associated with adaptation, contributing to success speciation and evolutionary.Higher organisms have undergone the sudden transition from diploidy to polyploidy and the gradual transition from polyploidy to diploidy in the evolutionary history.Understanding these effects induced by polyploidy assumes significance when it is considered that they confer organisms genomic and functional plasticity.
