2011年2月20日下午，我正在乌鲁木齐参加新疆师大音乐学院承担的国家社科艺术学项目《双重乐感的理论与实践研究》的结项评审会，忽接好友赵志扬的短信，告知冯光钰先生“今日凌晨因突发心脏病去世”。
On the afternoon of February 20,2011,when I was attending a meeting at the Xinjiang University College of Music in Urumqi,I suddenly received a text message from my good friend Zhao Zhiyang,in which he informed me that Mr.Feng Guangyu'died of heart attack early this morning'.It was really too sudden,and I was totally shocked and grief-stricken. Even only recently we were together in attending the Annual Meeting of Chinese Traditional Music Society and Chinese Society for Music of Ethnic Minorities respectively in Nanjing and Nanning where I saw him fit and sound.When leaving Nanning, he told me a lot about his series of projects in the near future,and hearing this,I advised him to'be careful',and he replied'Same to you',which now turns to be his farewell words to me. We met each other for the first time in early 1980's at the Concert'Sound of China'and an academic seminar that our conservatory organized shortly after he started to work with the Chinese Musicians' Association.I invited him to make a speech at the seminar and he gave us very valuable advice,which deeply impressed me.Later,he and Mr.Wang Minji invited me to join in the compilation of the Anthology of Chinese Folk Songs,the Anthology of Chinese Traditional and Folk Instrumental Music and the Anthology of Chinese Quyi Music.Soon afterwards we knew each other more, and became good friends who supported and helped each other academically.When I served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Music,he was one of the most important authors who contributed a lot to the magazine.He was the second president in history of the China Society for Music of Ethnic Minorities,and when I became the third president in 2000,he was elected as Honorary President.We had very good cooperation during the period and I got a lot of help from him.In January this year,I invited him to make an opening speech in my place at the 12th Annual Meeting of the society in Nanning as I was busy preparing the theme report,and he made deliberate preparations for the speech,and delivered it with predictive opinions and advice.In August 1994,I published my monograph A General Study of Chinese Folk Songs in Multiple Voice Parts,and in February 1995,he volunteered to write a critical review about my book and published it on the second volume of Chinese Music that year. When his book A Study of Chinese Qupai was published in 2008,I wrote a letter of recommendation for participation in the national competition of new books,at the invitation of the Anhui Culture and Art Publishing House.We both served as members of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Experts Committee,and we often exchanged ideas about academic issues of intangible cultural heritage protection,and submitted our advice to the committee. For nearly thirty years of acquaintance with each other,I was often inspired by his optimistic attitude towards life,fascinated by his immense vigour and deeply moved by his dedication to work.He was indeed a man of diligence and tolerance,with profound knowledge,always ready to help.He has dedicated his entire life to the cause of Chinese music,and has made tremendous contributions.His achievements and his spirit will be recorded in the history of Chinese music for ever.
