Brominobenzene 15 crown 5 was synthesized and used as a novel lubricating additive in liquid paraffin.The antiwear and friction reduction behaviors of the synthesized additive were evaluated and compared with ZDDP on a four ball machine. The boundary lubrication mechanism was explained by coordinate theory. The results indicate that brominobenzene 15 crown 5 exhibits excellent antiwear and friction reduction properties.
