一、和平与发展是当代世界两大历史潮流1.今天距离2001年还有12年,我们正处在新旧世纪交替的历史转折点。值此重要时刻,我们有机会应日本每日新闻社和大阪青年会议所的邀请,参加大阪第九次国际讨论会,与各国有识之士欢聚一堂,在认真总结20世纪历史遗产的基础上,展望21世纪世界与亚洲的发展前景。这对于我们继往开来,开创人类历史发展的新纪元,确实是一项有特殊意义的工作。
Whereas Asia faces bright prospects,the possibility of the Asian and PacificRegion becoming the political and economic center of the 21st-century world dependschiefly on1.The real East-West relaxation on such issues as the Korean peninsula,Taiwan,Kampuchea and Afganistan;and2.The narrowing of the North-South gap in Asia as a result of the developingAsian countries' freedom from poverty.A prosperous and strong China,which will almost certainly emerge,will exert far-reaching influence upon the whole region.
