摘要
阿莫尔多·沈问:为什么1924年被翘首以待的泰戈尔伟大中国之行会带来如此多的问题?尽管原因多种多样,当时泰戈尔倡导、维护东方传统文化的身份,与中国社会的前进方向,显得极不协调。这就是问题的根本原因。打倒对象的不同,决定了独立解放道路和对传统文化态度的不同。当然,我们不应回避,当时的左派是幼稚的,不成熟的,有许多做法是失礼的。今天我们不能不加分析地全盘否定"五四"新文化运动,不然又会犯"五四"全盘否定传统文化同样的错误。
Amartya＇Sen asked why Tagore＇s great visit to China in 1942 expected ardently by our Chinese people then caused a dispute. Though there might be many reasons, the basic one was that he advocated that the identity of traditional cultures should be upheld, which was in extreme disagreement with the orientation of the then development of Chinese society. The differences of the target of revolution decided on the differences of the paths of independence and liberation and the attitudes towards different traditional cultures. We should, of course, not avoid the fact that the leftists of the time were naive and immature and having breach of etiquette in many of their acts. Today we should not negate totally the May 4-th new culture movement without analysis, or we shall commit the same mistake of the May 4-th Movement, which had negated totally the traditional culture.
