摘要
民国时期的意大利驻华外交官罗斯是最早研究中国机制币的外籍人士,他精通中国图书,在华三十多年,收藏了为数众多的、珍贵的中文书籍和舆图,其中的海南岛史料内容宏富,具有重要的史料价值。罗斯在动荡年代客死中国,其藏书在动荡年代散落各处,研究海南岛的愿望亦未能实现,这是他不被中外学界所熟知的原因,但他对汉学研究的独特贡献是不应被遗忘的。
Giuseppe Ros,an Italian diplomat,was the first foreign researcher studying Chinese machine-made coins in the period of Republic of China.Ros collected a lot of precious Chinese ancient books and maps during his over-30-year stay in China,of which the historical materials about Hainan Island are abundant and of important value.Ros died in China during the turbulence epoch,and his collected books were scattered everywhere across the country,thus preventing him from fulfilling his desire to study Hainan island,which explains why he is rarely known at home and abroad,but his unique contribution to Sinology shouldn＇t be forgotten.
