摘要
中国有众多的师范学院、师范大学,然而对"师范"的英译却极其混乱,众说纷纭。文章在对目前"师范"的六种英译版本进行评论的基础上,结合国外师范大学的历史及现状和中国师范大学的特点,重点研究"Normal University"和"Teachers University"的译名之争,提出中国师范大学的英译应该规范、统一,应统一为规范译名———"Normal University"。
There are many colleges for training teachers in China with ＂shifan＂ in their Chinese names. However, they are different in translating the term ＂shifan＂ into English. Based on analyzing six current pop- ular English renderings of ＂shifan＂, including the history and current situation of foreign colleges for training teachers and the characteristics of their counterparts in China, the author suggests that ＂Normal University＂ is a standardized English name for ＂shifan＂. The author also emphasizes on the controversy about ＂Normal University＂ and ＂Teachers University＂, and puts forwards that the English rendering of ＂shifan＂ should be standardized and uniformed.
