The retinal structure of Lateolabrax japonicus in different early developmental stages has been studied. The relation between feeding behaviour and vision investigated. The results are as follows: The eyes did not pigmented in the newly hatched larva. The lens and retina did not differentiate yet. They began to differentiate at 6th h. Ten layers were formed in the retina at 20th h. Optic nerves were formed and functioned at 52th h. The retinomotor responses occurred at 27th d. With the growth, the responses were deeper. The vision was the first sense when larva opened their mouth to feed. With the development of the eyes,the feeding ability enhanced greatly.
