C supported K promoted Mo Ni catalysts, prepared by incipient wetness impregnation technique followed by reduction in H 2, are found to be very active for the selective production of C 1 to C 7 alcohols from syngas. Ethanol and propanol are apparently the major products for one of the optimized catalysts. The production rate to total alcohols can reach as high as 470 g/(h·kg) at p =5 0 MPa, GHSV=6 m 3/(h·kg) and T ≈643 K, with a CO 2 free carbon atom selectivity to total alcohols of about 60% and a C 2+ alcohols to methanol molar ratio of 3 5. The catalytic performance, in terms of both activity and selectivity for mixed alcohol synthesis, is much better than that of the pre sulfided sample. The alcohol products obey Anderson Schultz Flory distribution, with the exception of methanol whose amount is obviously lower than the predicted value.
