The Seasonal and inteiannual variable characters of heat content of the oceanic upper layer in northwest Pacific during the period of 1964-1982 are discussed. The heal content of the oceanic upper layer is indicated by using average temperature from surface to 100m depth (Tar). Under usual conditions, the region South of 18°N is characterized by high heat content. After the appearance of El Nino, the heat content becomes very low, and the area of high heat content decreases rapidly. This feature was quite evident in 1965 , 1968-1969, 1972-1973, 1976 and 1982. In this paper, two time series of number of gridpoint on which Tar is greater or equal to 27℃ (Tar≥27℃) and Tar is greater or equal to 28℃ (Tar≥28℃) respectively, were established. These lime series may represent the interannual variability of the area of high content. The power spectra of the two time series show the significant peaks at four year period and two year period.
