Three methods lor monitoring and detecting organic pollution by studying changes in benthic communities were introduced and used to detect the organic pollution induced by the intense cultivation of fish in cage in Nubeena salmonids farm, Tasmania, Australia. The results showed that under the cage till 10 meters away was a grossly polluted area, 30 meters away from the cage was a moderetely polluted area; in which organic matter has a negetive effect on fauna, 60 meters away from the cage was lightly organic enriched and the effects of organic matter on fauna was possitive. Beyond 60 meters was a 'naormal' area. The suitability of these methods was discussed.
