Self-conscious emotions are based on self-cognition of individual, and are produced by selfreflection. The development of self-conscious emotions is closely related to the individual's cognitive development. First, the primary emotions appear. The first class of self-conscious emotions are emerge after the development of self-referential behavior, and include embarrassment, empathy, and envy. When children require more cognitive capacity, learn about the social standards and rules, the second class of self-conscious emotions emerge, such as guilt, shame, and pride. Process Model of Self-Conscious Emotions hypothesizes that self-conscious emotions require several steps, including the appraisal of Survival goal-relevance, attentional focus on the self and activation of self-representations, the appraisal of identity goal-relevance, identity-goal congruence, internality attributions, stability and globality attributions. Up to date, the models leave many predictions to be studied in psychological research.
