回顾历史,国际遗传学界的第一、二两次大会,是分别于1899年1月11日至12日在伦敦和1902年9月30日至10月2日在纽约召开的,大会名称是'植物杂交工作国际会议'。1906年7月30日至8月7日在伦敦召开的第三次大会,名称则是'杂交和植物育种国际会议'。那次大会的主席贝特森(W.Bateson)
Longevity and abundant harvests are the two traditional Chinese aspirations for human welfare.Geneticists can do research efforts to reach this goal in three main areas,that is,gene-based agriculture,medicine and environmental protection.Many biological phenomena may ultimately be explained at the level of gene action.Genetics therefore remains a foundation for life sciences,and is closely involved in human survival,heslth,and life expectancy.In the coming century,we can predict that nothing can be understood in life sciences except in the light of gene.
