The aim of this experiment of Black - bone chicken is to study the optimal dietary protein level in finishing period and in laying period. The results showed that there was little difference between the group with lower dietary protein level(the protein content in 4-6 weeks age was 19%,7~14 weeks age was 17% and 15~25 weeks age was 13K) and the group with higher protein level(the protein content in 4~6 weeks age was 21%. in 7~14 weeks age was 19% and in 15~25 weeks age was 15%) in body weight, daily gain and. feed conversion of Black - bone chicken in finishing period. It was found that the laying rate in the group with lower dietary protein level in 27~34 weeks age and in 41~48 weeks age were higher than the group with higher deitary protein level in finishing period . Except in 31~32 weeks age , there was significant difference among groups in 27~34 weeks age (P < 0. 05) , and the laying rate of Black - bone chicken with lower deitary protein level in 41~48 weeks age was higher than those with higher protein level, but the difference was not significant( P > 0. 05) . The feed/egg conversion rate in group with lower deitary protein level was lower. Through this experiments, it was found that there was need of optimal deitary protein level in finishing period of Black - bone chicken and the optimal protein level in the diets in 4~6 weeks age was 19%(ME : 12. 30 MJ / kg) , in 7~14 weeks age was 17% (ME: 11. 95MJ / kg)and in 15~25 weeks age was 13%(ME: 11.59MJ / kg).
