Depend on data investigated at coal mines, it shows that current supporting mode des not give full play to supporting results and causes deterioration of supportng condition becauuse of not fully realizing law of rock stress behaviour around mine openings, support specification and interaction between support and surrounding rck, not reasonable selecting supporting mode and parameters, so that maintenance cost of roadways rises. Beijing Mining Branch of Central Coal Mining Research Institute has developed Expert system selecting reasonable mode and parameters of supporting actual mining roadways.The system makes scientific strategic decision of designing roadway supporting, avoids losses caused by mining roadways, and increases economical effects.
The paper details essential principle of reasonable selecting supporting mode and parameters;solving technical problems during carring out design of roadway supporting as well as function and results of application and evaluation of the system and so on.
