摘要
以社会学的理论视角,通过结构功能主义、斗争理论和文化研究三个理论,探讨了美国竞技体育在本国社会化过程中和社会变革中的重要作用;它在国际关系及民族发展中的作用;它的政治意义;以及种族和性别问题在美国竞技体育中的体现等等。对美国竞技体育的社会学研究表明:竞技体育社会学内部深层理论研究势在必行。
This paper gives a comprehensive analysis and interpretation of sports in the U. S. from a sociological perspective and the available theories are Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory and Cultural Studies. The discussion develops around the following topics：how sports relate to the processes of socialization and social change, the role of sports in inter- national relations and national development, the political meaning of sports in different societies, the inequality of gender and races in sports, etc. The tentative conclusion of the above issues shed more light on all these questions when theory informs more of the research in this subfield.
