相对于电子以及制造业而言,中国服装的产业结构长时期徘徊于初级水平。一般来说,服装发展可分为四个阶段:工业化阶段、自然品牌阶段、品牌阶段和多元化阶段。我国服装业还处于服装发展的第二阶段——"自然品牌阶段",这个阶段最主要的特征就是品牌之间可以替换。虽然中国经济已步入市场的轨道,但相比其他行业,中国服装业还存留有相当浓厚的计划经济时代的产业思维特点,很多企业对服装的认识还停留在遮体御寒的基本功能上,造型简单、品牌之间的特性无区别,国外专业人士曾多次说中国的服装"换了商标可以说成任何品牌。"
