Objective Using the scoring system of the model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) to predict the prognosis of cirrhotic patients with esophageal varices bleeding. Methods Total 112 cirrhotic patients with esophageal varices bleeding were enrolled with a follow-up. On admission MELD scores were obtained to observe their correlation with rebleeding and mortality. Results With the increase of MELD score, the rebleeding and mortality significantly increased. MELD scores in rebleeding group and non-rebleeding group were 46.78 and 21.74, respectively (P 〈 0.05), while in death group and survival group were 39.14 and 15.89, respectively ( P 〈 0. 05 ). Conclusion The MELD score is a good parameter for predicting the prognosis of cirrhotic patients with esophageal varices bleeding.
