《宠儿》是莫里森最受关注和争议的小说。宠儿在小说中是一个身份模糊的人物,其经历穿越时空,其身份具多种可能性于一体,具有形与无形、具体与抽象于一体。小说作者通过对宠儿及相关人物的描写和故事的讲述,向读者多层面多角度地展示了美国黑人的苦难历史,有力地抨击了奴隶制的罪恶。
Beloved is the most frequently discussed and the most controversial novel of Toni Morrison. In the novel Beloved is a character with ambiguous identities, whose experience transcends time and place and who has many possible identities which are either visible or invisible, either concrete or abstract. Through the description of Beloved and other relative characters and the narration of the stories, the author reveals to the readers the miserable history of African Americans from multiple levels and perspectives, and in this way attacks the evil of slavery.
