The accomplishments of Tencent Holdings Ltd.during these past two years were just amazing. Although the share price of Tencent had once been affected and dropped from HKD 70 to HKD 35.25 on Oct 27th,2008,ever since then though,its share price has surged more than three times. Among the best performing companies in the Hong Kong technology stock market.Tencent's current market capitalization is HKD 230 billion.This August,Ma Huateng,the CEO of Tencent showed the public another good'school report':For the half a year period ending on June 30th,2009,the company had broken its old record for total revenues and profits from all corresponding periods since its founding.Its total revenues were RMB 5,382.8 million(USD 787.9 million),an increase of 77.5%when compared with the same period in 2008.Operating profit was RMB 2,563.5 million(USD 375.2 million),an increase of 70.6%.Active Instant Messaging(IM) user accounts increased to 448.0 million,and peak simultaneous online user accounts for IM services were recorded at 61.3 million. The three most important internet service companies with the highest market capitalization in China's Internet market are Tencent,Alibaba,and Baidu,which all focus on a one-stop-service operation model.On the one hand,these three companies rely on the strength of IM,search engines and e-commerce;on the other hand,all of them have tried to invade each other's territory by using this full service operational model.The checks and balances among the three kingdoms have been deadlocked for years,however it is predicted that their final war is bound to occur sooner or later. The question is:How can Tencent,a company who is walking further down the road of diversification win out over other big companies that stress platformization such as Baidu and Alibaba.
