从20世纪80年代后期开始，越南开始推行经济体制改革，鼓励外商投资者到越南投资。由于越南丰富的劳动力资源和良好的社会环境，越南经济增长很快，良好的经济基本面吸引了大量外商直接投资，而外商直接投资在越南经济增长中也发挥了重要作用。
