长江与洞庭湖在城陵矶交汇处,滚滚东流,形成著名的"三江口"。然而历史上的三江口并不在今城陵矶江湖交汇处,而在今岳阳城之南。由于主泓道的不断改道及地球自转的缘故,乃逐渐推移至城陵矶处。
