Primary hypertension is one of the most connnon cardiovascular diseases. It is the major risk factor for coronary heart disease, and stroke. In spite of this, the pathogenesis of hypertension has still not been clarified. It is known, however, that primary hyperten- sion results from the interplay of internal derangements, and the external environment. With advances through research it has been found that abnormal electrolyte levels have a role in hypertension. This article reviews developments in the relationship between primary hypertension and serum electrolytes.
