Chinese classical gardens have become a place of "obscurities", and a place for romantic amativeness. The reason behind this phenomenon is that Chinese classical gardens try to create an obscure amatory atmosphere in their own structural design, which is a particularly suitable place for lovers to indulge in love affections and amorous pleasure and to have tryst and carry on a clandestine love affair with each other. Represented in literary works, these gardens become a strong symbol of inducing amorous affection and arousing erotic feelings. The reactionary side of Chinese classical gardens depicted in literary works has close connections with the suppression of human nature advocated by China's Confucianism.
