Wetlands ecosystems are a significant carbon reservoir on the earth by absorbing a good deal of carbon dioxide through photosynthesis whilst converting to organic carbon. Thus, the wetlands ecosystems have the characteristics with rich and high-density of carbon. The carbon storage and carbon cycle of wetlands, as well as their affecting factors and response characteristics to environmental change were analysed. The irrational exploitation of wetlands resources has made a change in the environment of wetlands resulting in the transition from a carbon sink to carbon source that emits greenhouse gases (GHGs) to aggravate the greenhouse effect. The global warming, sea level rise and precipitation change have great influence on the distribution and function of wetlands. It has been pointed out that a key to conservation of wetlands is to properly control the flux of carbon cycle.
