The fundamentals of differential geometry is introduced in popular language. The effects of“contraction of a rod” and “slowing down of a clock”, as well as the twin paradox are analyzed in detail using geometric language. Some misunderstandings involved are clarified. The fundamentals of the general theory of relativity is also introduced briefly, emphasizing the reason why gravity is the curvature of the spacetime. Some misunderstanding point relative to the principle of equivalence is also clarified. The line of demarcation between the special and general theories of relativity is given, and it is pointed out clearly that the twin paradox is within the scope of special relativity.
