Japan Islands are located in the seismic zone of the western Pacific Ocean. There were 199 earthquakes with equal and more than Ms 6.0 occurred in the period of 1998 to 2007, which is about 20.7% of the total earthquakes happened in the world during the same period. However the death tolls caused by these earthquakes in Japan were no more than that of 9% (compared to about 30% of death tolls in China). Both China and Japan are the countries with a number of large earthquakes, it is worthy to learn from Japan in the fields of earthquake prevention, disaster mitigation and rescue work after the large earthquakes, as well as the daily habits of Japanese people facing the earthquake disasters.
