Sand drift activity along the oil transported highway in Taklimakan Desert is resulted from the interaction between internal energy giving off in the desert and external cold air mass intruding. In cold season, the temperature inversion from cold high pressure takes the charge of weaker sand drift activity. In warm season, the thermal sources increase fastly, and when saturated thermal sources meet the invasion of cold air mass, strong sand drift weather appears. So, it can be concluded that sand drift activity and aeolian landform forming are mainly taking place in warm dry period.
