The engineering design scheme and improvement procedures of a rare earth smelter is described. It covers mainly the construction scale, product variety, quality and output, selection of technological process and equipment, main techno -- economic indexes and economic results , as well as improvement of the engineering design and energy conservation and discussion about some problems.
