By using the data of Pearl River Delta regional air monitoring network, we analyze the situation and spatial -temporal characteristics of air pollution during a regional haze episode occurred in October 2006 over Pearl River Delta. The results show that haze causes the deterioration of air quality, such as increasing the concentration of each pollutant even over china's national standard, raising the ratio of PM2.5 to PM10 and so on. The highest daily concentration of PM2.5 and O3 appear two or three days later than that of SO2 and NO2 and PM10 with the difference between primary pollutants and secondary pollutants. Different diurnal variations of SO2 and NO2 and O3 and PMl0 and PM2.5 indicate generally the major factors including local emissions and transportation at sites. There are significant regional pollution characteristics in Pearl River Delta, of which Foshan, Guangzhou and Dongguan are the most serious areas.
