It is well konown that Turbo codes can approach Shannon Limit,so it is widely used in various fields including Deep Space Communication(DSC).Turbo codes provide up to 0.8dB improvement in E b/ N o over the current best codes used by deep space mission.In this paper,an overview of the trend in DSC and the rationale of Turbo codes are introduced briefly.The algorithms and applications of Turbo codes used in DSC are analyzed with a great emphasis and the performance analysis of Turbo codes comparing with other traditional codes is simulated.Finally,aiming at the characteristic of DSC,several technological issues on the implementation of Turbo codes are discussd.
