摘要
袁枚的小说思想体现在《子不语序》中,包括:肯定小说的地位、重视小说的"自娱"功能、强调"戏编"为主的创作方法等,虽然较为零散,但已涵盖本体论、功能论、创作论等方面的内容,显示出一定的系统性。袁枚对小说地位的肯定有助于扭转当时学者"不屑道"小说之风气;对"自娱"、"戏编"的认识,又使作家的主体意识得到显著张扬。袁枚的"性灵"理论对其小说思想的形成有重要影响,而"性灵说"理论上的缺失也导致了其小说思想存在着不足。
Yuan Mei's opinions towards novel writing are reflected in his Preface to What the Master Did Not Speak Of, mainly including his assertion on its status, its self-entertaining function and his stress on "game-play" as a main novel writing method. Although fragmented, his opinions have covered ontology, theory of function and theory of writing to make his thought more or less systematic. His assertion of novel's status retorted the then scholars' disdain against novels. His ideas of "self-entertaining" and "game-play" helped hold high the subjectivity of the writers. Yuan Mei's thoughts of "nature and gnosis" have significant influence on his opinions to novels. Hence, the drawbacks in his "nature and gnosis" theory also lead to the deficiency in the latter opinions.
