A novel method for synthesizing nanometer perovskite LaMnO_3 and La_[1-x]Sr_xMnO_3 was developed, in which solution of Na_2CO_3NaOH was taken as precipitating agent and the supercritical drying method was used. Nanometer crystalline LaMnO_3 and La_0.8Sr_0.2MnO_3 with the average particle size of about 18 nm and about 25 nm respectively were made by this method. It was shown that the activity for carbon monoxide oxidation on LaMnO_3 increases significantly with the decrease of its particle size and the substitution of strontium for lanthanum in nanometer LaMnO_3 can elevate the activity effectively.
