Tribute to the White Poplar is generally acknowledged as an excellent piece in ZHANGPei-ji's translation of Chinese prose. With the popularity of the "cultural turn" in Translation Studies, the translator's subjectivity, which emphasizes the subjective initiative of the translator, has been highlighted in recent years by translators both at home and abroad. This paper, through an elaboration of the connotations and five expressions of the translator's subjectivity, offers a tentative approach to ZHANG Pei-ji's translation version from those five aspects respectively. Thus, it can be deeply understood how Professor ZHANG can properly convey both meaning and style of the original work at the same time bringing his subjectivity into full play. This is conclusive to an overall study of the translation version, and can help translators in bringing their subjectivity appropriately in the process of translation.
