摘要
通过对这一海域1971年夏季地转流,温度,盐度,磷酸盐及硅酸盐等分布的分析指出,至少在这一年夏季,通过巴士海峡的太平洋和南海的水交换是很弱而不深入的;从1200m层以浅来看,水交换还是以自南海流向太平洋为主。黑潮水只现出在巴士海峡中诸岛以西至大约120~121°E的海域。黑潮作为强大的经向流,阻挡了太平洋水纬向地深入南海。由巴士海峡进入南海的黑潮水,又受到东沙群岛附近较冷水体的屏障,未能深入南海,而迂回于巴士海峡以西附近。
The Bashi Strait located between the Taiwan and Luzon Island is an important channel for water exchange between the Pacific Ocean and South China Sea. The Kuroshio flows through this Strait, and there are warm and cold eddies appearing on the eastern and western sides of the Kuroshio, respectively. Therefore, the circulation pattern in the Bashi Strait is very complex.
As concerning the water exchange through the Bashi Strait, scientists agree on the view-point that in winter the westward flow from the Pacific Ocean into the South China Sea is predominant. But as to the water exchange in summer, it is a controversial question. There is sharp difference of views among scientists. The question whether the eastward or westward flow is predominant in summer remains to be determined.
Based on the hydrographic and hydrochemical data obtained on board of R/V Chiu Lieu of the Oceanography Institute, Taiwan University in July-August, 1971 in the Bashi Strait and the northeastern South China Sea, the features of the summer circulation in this area, especially the water exchange problem is investigated as a case study in this paper.
Analyses of the distributions of the geostrophic current, temperature, salinity, phosphate and silicate reveal that, at least in summer of this year, the water exchange through the Bashi Strait between the Pacific Ocean and South China Sea was very weak and not deeply penetrated into the west. Judging from the upper 1200m layer, the water exchange was still predominant with the eastward flow from the South China Sea into the Pacific Ocean. The Kuroshio water only appeared about in the area of 120°—121°E, that is, just west of the Islands in the Bashi Strait.
The Kuroshio, as an intense meridional current, blocked the Pacific water to latitudenally penetrate into the South China Sea. In addition, owing to the obstruction of the cool water near the Dongsha Islands, the Kuroshio water flowing into the South China Sea through the Bashi Strait could not penetrate deeply into the South China Sea an, d was roundabout near the west of the Bashi Strait.
It is pointed that, the intensity of the different components of the circulation is variable, and the outer factors affecting the sea condition are also variable. Therefore, though in the same season of summer, the circulation pattern can not be invariable, and sometimes) the change may be so large that the circulation pattern in summer of different years might he entirely different. The above mentioned pattern is only a case in one summer. It is necessary to collect more data in summer of different years in order to derive more representative and general circulation pattern and water exchange model.
