摘要
伯明翰学派创建伊始,就将研究的焦点集中于文学,这一方面是基于当时英国文化主义占主导地位的学术语境,另一方面也是为了突破英国文化主义在当时面临的困境。然而,仅仅更新文学研究的范式并不能完全走出英国文化主义的困境,于是伯明翰学派便将研究的主题由文学转向文化,并以平民文化观念替代了英国文化主义的精英文化观念。在平民文化观念的支配下,伯明翰学派关注的中心文化形式自然就是通俗文化。伯明翰学派由此经历了从文学到文化再到通俗文化的主题嬗变,从而完成了文化研究的演进历程。
At the beginning of its establishment, Birmingham School focuses the study on literature. This relates to its academic context in which British Culturalism occupies leading position, and also relates to its effort to walk out of theoretical predicament British Culturalism facing at the time. However, just renewing mode of literature study couldn＇t make British Culturalism get out of the predicament. Birmingham School thus turns its topic from literature to culture, and establishes its popular cultural idea. Under the control of popular cultural idea, the central culture which Birmingham School pays attention to popular culture naturally. Birmingham School＇s theoretical theme thus undergoes the evolution from literature to culture and then to popular culture. And, the evolution of Cultural Studies has been completed.
