Design and implementation of a virtual machine-based transparent computing system

摘要 虚拟机技术使用户可以使用跨操作系统平台的应用,但虚拟机的软硬件管理复杂,并使用户受阻于许多技术细节。针对该问题,该文提出一种基于虚拟机的透明计算系统,通过虚拟的设备模型将用户操作系统访问磁盘和网络的输入输出请求重定向到服务器上进行处理,实现了未经修改的操作系统在透明计算环境中的加载和应用,从而利用透明计算的特点使用户使用时无需进行管理以及了解技术细节。基于Intel VT平台和XEN虚拟机实现了原型系统,通过测试验证了该方法的有效性和可行性。 Current virtual machine technologies allow users to utilize applications on heterogeneous operating systems. However, hardware and software management of the virtual machine is complicated and difficult to use. This paper presents a virtual-machine based transparent computing system which uses a virtualized device model in the service operating system (OS) to redirect device I/O requests in the vip OS over networks to be serviced by the server. As a result, heterogeneous operating systems can run unmodified on-demand in a transparent computing environment. As in the Transparent Computing paradigm, the method enables users to focus on the needed computing without consideration of the management or technical issues. The feasibility and effectiveness of the method were verified on a prototype system based on Intel VT and the full virtualization of XEN.
