摘要
对于工艺发展已陷入停顿的基于标准单元的ASIC或ASSP来说,FPGA威胁其地位的势头正在日益增强。今后,除了作为辅助芯片以外,FPGA稳步扩大应用领域的方向将是取代ASIC或ASSP的大部分甚至全部功能。FPGA厂商最近迅速推进工艺发展的实际行动,也加快了FPGA向此方向发展的趋势。
Most or all of the functions of cell-based ASIC and ASSP are now being replaced with FPGA,a direction which,along with the increasing usage of FPGA as companion chips,is expected to steadily expand the customer base.This direction is coming from the recent rapid promotion of smaller design rules instituted by FPGA manufacturers.With their design rules coming into the 40-nm generation, FPGA will soon be neck and neck with ASIC and ASSP in terms of circuit size and performance.
