The Communist Party of Taiwan was a product of the development of the international Communist movement in the 1920s. Since Taiwan was ceded to Japan and became its colony in 1895 the Taiwan Residents Communist Party was organizationally subordinate to the Communist Party of Japan and was a branch of the latter according to the "one country, one party" principle of the Communist International. But the anti-Japanese and anti-colonial struggles of the people led by the Taiwan Residents Communist Party on the island was in nature a part of the anti-imperialist and anti-feudal nationalist and democratic revolution of the Chinese nation, the Taiwan Residents Communist Party had inseparable relations with the CPC. The establishment, activities, development, failure and evolution of the former were all under the guidance and influence of the latter, directly or indirectly, and its mainstay members finally returned to the CPC.
