The intensity of the reflected and scattered light from a surface shows the information about the roughness of the surface. That is, the intensity of the reflected and scattered light is related to the surface roughness and the distance between the probing fibres and the reflective surface. In this paper, fibres are used to receive the reflected and scattered light from the surface to be measured, and to measure the realtionship between the intensity of the reflected and scattered light, the distance and the roughness. Then the best mimic curve method is adopted to work out the relationship between Ra and the light intensity.
